One of the final things that I was able to do in Australia was go to the most easterly part of the mainland of Australia that is located in Byron Bay. This experience really took my breath away. As I thought about my semester, walking with my host mom, I realized just how much this country means to me. I know that this isn't necessarily "home" but in three months I learned heaps about what it means to dig into a place. Getting to know the individuals and learn about Australian culture and history has allowed me to love this country a little deeper. Home will always be the sagebrush and mountains, but Australia took a pretty big piece of my heart.
