It was in that moment that I realized my calling as a camel thief...

Just kidding; though I felt pretty powerful leading the rope attached to the camels. After a freezing and exhilarating night of eating, drinking tea, and sleeping under the stars at the Bedouin camp in Wadi Rum, we trekked out of the desert the following morning. We learned quickly that things in the desert appear a lot closer than they are. A few people, myself included, decided to take turns riding the camels for the purpose of splitting the cost of a ride, and switched after about twenty minutes. We thought we saw our destination quickly approaching, but an hour later we were still quite a ways away.

Riding camels is awesome, but it is serious business. It is not as relaxing as it seems. By the end of the ride our backs and legs ached from the constant back-and-forth swaying. We may be smiling, but we are probably hoping that we'll reach the camp soon so we can stretch. We'll see who's really tough...
